Nyko makes changing your PS4 HDD interesting

When the PS4 first got announced, everyone got excited; 500 Gb hard disc space. Just a year later it turns out, that it’s not that much. If you play a lot of games, you easily fill up that PS4 hard disc. Nyko comes with a product that makes changing your HDD very interesting.

More space means more money

IMPORTANT: you can change the hard disc of your PS4 without losing the warranty

There are many hard discs out there that hold a lot more than 500 Gb. You can easily find one with 2 Tb. The only problem is, they are more expensive. Then there are different types of hard discs, if you want a faster one you are looking at a SSHD or a SSD. An SSD is a disc without any moving parts, making it a lot faster than a regular hard disc. An SSHD is a hybrid version, still with a moving dics, but a small flash memory part. It is not as fast as a SSD, but faster than a normal disc. Again, the better option is the more expensive one.

Another issue is the size of the PlayStation 4 HDD. This is a 2.5 inch, where a 3.5 inch is more conventional (and thus, cheaper). A quick search on Amazon shows us the following (these are prices for a 2 TB disc):

Price comparison

  • 3.5″ HDD    80 dollars
  • 3.5″ SSHD  100 dollars
  • 3.5″ SSD      150 dollars

  • 2.5″ HDD    130 dollars
  • 2.5″ SSHD  160 dollars
  • 2.5″ SSD      a lot more than your PlayStation

Replacing your PS4 hard disc

It is quite easy to replace the HDD of your PS4. On YouTube you find tons of videos. This one is short and clear:

The ideal disc to put in your PS4 is a 2.5″ SSD, but why would you if it costs hundreds and hundreds of dollars? Wouldn’t it be great if you could put in a 3.5″ SSD with 2 Tb of memory in your PlayStation 4? 150 dollars for a bigger and much faster disc is not a bad deal, but the problem is, it won’t fit. At least, for now…

Nyko comes with a new casing

Take a look at this:

This is the new Nyko casing, which allows you to change your 2.5″ HDD for a 3.5″ disc. Now you can install discs that hold up to 6 Tb of data. When the ‘Data Bank’ will be released and for how much is not known yet. This seems like a great solution for die-hard gamers though.

Make sure to keep an eye on this site for the latest news about the Nyko Data Bank.
