Squad: a tactical FPS gets Greenlight on Steam

A group of developers that worked on Battlefield 2’s Project Reality have teamed up to make a tactical FPS called Squad. Recently, it got Greenlight status on Steam.

Squad is looking to “bridge the rather large gap between arcade shooter and military sim”. They do this by having large maps with 50 versus 50 players at the same time. As you can see in the video below, there is still some work to be done (they’re still working on vehicles), but graphically it already looks promising.

For Squad to work well with such big teams, communication is key. So there’s integrated positional voice communication integrated. So you will hear the players near you instead of everyone on the field. There’s also a chain of command in the communication.

Squad will have enormous maps

In order to fit 100 players into 1 game, the maps will have to be huge…and luckily they are! A game of Battlefield will feel claustrophobic after you have played a round in Squad.Squad FPS screen WeirdGamerAs mentioned before, Squad is far from finished. The expected release date is early 2016. Before that there’s bound to be alpha and beta testing. Keep an eye on this website and we’ll keep you informed about all the testing that goes on in Squad.
